About Me

Damian Yeo is a lawyer, franchise consultant, franchise developer, author, a member of the Malaysia Advisory Board and founder of The Franchise Code (Academy wannabe), with over 20 years of experience specializing in franchising law and business development.

Throughout his career, Damian has assisted numerous franchise companies in navigating the legal complexities of franchising—whether through handling court disputes, structuring franchise systems, preparing disclosure documents, drafting comprehensive operations manuals, or ensuring compliance with Malaysia’s regulatory framework. His dual perspective as both a practicing lawyer and a franchise consultant uniquely positions him to offer strategic, practical, and legally sound advice to clients seeking sustainable franchise growth.

A sought-after speaker and trainer, Damian has conducted seminars and training sessions for the Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA), multiple State Bars across Malaysia, chambers of commerce, business councils, and various professional organizations. His workshops focus on franchise law, business expansion strategies, operational best practices, and compliance matters. Damian’s mission is to demystify franchising for both legal professionals and entrepreneurs, making it accessible, understandable, and actionable.

Damian is currently pursuing his Master’s in Law (LL.M.) at Multimedia University (MMU). His thesis, titled “Regulated vs. Self-Regulated Franchising: A Study on the Optimal Framework for Franchise Governance in Malaysia,” explores the balance between government regulation and industry self-regulation, assessing the implications for franchisors, franchisees, and the broader franchise ecosystem.

Damian’s book, The Franchise Code: Start Structure and Scale Your Franchise in Malaysia, was written to correct widespread misconceptions about franchising in the country. He explains how Malaysia’s franchise system differs from global norms and provides a practical, step-by-step framework for building, registering, and scaling a franchise business legally and strategically. His work also serves international readers seeking to understand the unique Malaysian context.

In recognition of his contributions, Damian was appointed as a Member of the Franchise Advisory Board for Malaysia — an acknowledgment of his commitment to fostering a fair, transparent, and sustainable franchise environment.

The Journey Ahead: Beyond consulting, writing, and speaking, Damian is expanding The Franchise Code into a series of books, structured workshops, masterclasses, and educational programs. His vision is to build a comprehensive ecosystem that trains, guides, and empowers both franchisors and franchisees for long-term success in a rapidly evolving marketplace.

Personal Notes: Damian is an ardent football fan, a proud supporter of Liverpool FC, and formerly led Melaka United during 2019/2020. He even explored plans to franchise Melaka United through e-sports and digital platforms — an innovative concept paused due to unforeseen circumstances and the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Be as unrealistic as possible — and then figure it out to make it REAL."

A fun fact: Damian’s lifelong curiosity with structures, systems, and hidden patterns started when he was fascinated by spider webs as a child. This instinct for seeing connections and frameworks ultimately shaped his career in franchising, where he now helps businesses weave resilient, interconnected franchise networks.

Above all, Damian believes in dreaming beyond limits:
“Be as unrealistic as possible — and then figure it out to make it REAL.”
