A couple of days ago, while browsing the internet, I came across a very useful and practical resource on the SME Corp Malaysia website. It features a comprehensive list of grants, soft loans, and financial assistance schemes available to both Bumiputera and non-Bumiputera businesses, women, youth etc. What stood out to me is that some of these financial programs are franchise-related, offering direct support for both franchisors and franchisees who are looking to start, expand, or sustain their businesses within the franchising ecosystem. These include initiatives under agencies such as PNS, TEKUN, PUNB, Bank Rakyat, MIDF, and others. There are also targeted schemes for digitalisation, automation, and Bumiputera entrepreneurship development.
This discovery aligns well with what I wrote in my book, The Franchise Code: Start, Structure & Scale Your Franchise in Malaysia, particularly in Chapter 20 titled “Franchise and Money Matters” (page 191), where I stated:
“…To support franchise growth, several funding options are available through banks, government agencies and alternative financing solutions…”
That statement continues to hold true, and SME Corp’s platform is a testament to the many opportunities available—if we know where to look. I highly encourage anyone involved in franchising, especially SMEs and startups, to visit https://www.smecorp.gov.my and explore. At the same time, I’ve taken the liberty to put up the entire list for easier reference. It’s a valuable resource that may just lead you to the next phase of growth or sustainability for your business.
